With a degree from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Lisbon, Batista began his career with design and architecture roles at firms such as BETA Office for Architecture and MORE Architecture. As a Project Leader at V8 Architects, Batista honed his expertise in project management and technical building, laying the groundwork for his transition into model making. His journey into this field took shape as the model maker and workshop manager at MVRDV, where he crafted detailed, high-quality architectural models that showcased the company’s visionary, innovative, and sustainable projects.
Batista Lopes is the founder and model maker behind Studio Basic, specializing in creating storytelling sculptures that bring artists’ and architects’ visions to life. Batista is dedicated to blending his passion for craftsmanship with the latest advancements in digital fabrication. He operates at the intersection of architectural model making, natural material sculpting, and digital technology.
